Greek Islands Bella, The Dog Who Owns Kefalonia Airport

On our last day in Kefalonia/Cephalonia Island (summer of 2019), Dutchman and I met the maximum interesting personality we've ever encountered at the island. Her call is Bella.

Bella isn't always a person even though. Bella is a canine. She lives in the airport of Kefalonia.

Bella the canine just oozes canine beauty and self belief. Just take a look at those eyes =)

We met Bella when we were looking forward to our flight lower back to Amsterdam. We had sufficient time to sit outside and revel in the warm climate while we noticed Bella traipsing into view. She is an vintage dog, but a very relaxed one who walks with unquestionable self assurance and authority. I even have by no means visible a canine who feels so at domestic in an airport?

I accompanied Bella around for a while. She actually walked anywhere inside the airport, as though doing her ordinary every day rounds, appearing like a boss and checking up on every person. You can see her strolling across the departure lobby, popping into the ticketing office and rental automobile companies. All the airport people appear to recognise her and greet her with delight.

So Dutchman and I had been like, ‘What the heck, who's this dog strolling in and out freely within the airport? Does a person own him/her?’

We were somewhat baffled so we did some little sleuthing work. We asked a local taxi driver sitting throughout us from the bench having a ruin. He is taking his lunch, a few bread he sold on the bakery and he's sharing some of it to the canine, who's by now laying effortlessly at the floor in front of him.

We learned from the taxi motive force that the canine’s name is Bella, and that Bella clearly lives inside the airport. No one owns her. He doesn’t virtually realize when Bella precisely came to stay inside the airport, he simply knows that Bella has been residing here for years. He added that no different canine might ever dare come near right here due to the fact Bella shoos them away. It is her territory.

‘Bella owns the airport.’ he said, grinning in among bites. ‘Everyone operating in the airport knows her. All folks taxi drivers too.’

Dutchman whispered to me, ‘She is THE airport dog.’ [Hehe]

The taxi driver tears once more a bit piece from his bread and threw it to Bella. ‘Bella by no means goes hungry because anyone feeds her.’

‘And she is getting fats because of this.’

Hmm, I can see that the taxi driver may be very keen on Bella, haha.

‘Her favourite is chocolate, but I deliver her a little handiest so she will be able to not get fatter.’

Right, this taxi driver may be very concerned of Bella’s fitness! =)

We checked out our watches and knew that we had to reduce our chat quick. Helaas, it is time to go to our gates. In the Greek Islands, the airports are small so that you are spared from an agonising journey thru safety. You can without problems breeze via departures to safety test and to the boarding gate in just a depend of mins. Which approach you may still do some thing before the flight, such as this picnic we did outdoor the airport on Lesvos Island many years again: Picnic at Mytilene beach aiport even as waiting for our flight

We bid our goodbyes to Bella and the friendly taxi motive force.

Bella have to have visible loads and lots of holidaymakers passing via the island each summer season. They all come and move she may assume… while she,... Properly, she remains.

If you ever visit Kefalonia, do attempt to search for Bella in the airport. But please don’t feed her too much sweets ok? Just a bit could be first-rate.
