I am a self-confessed foodie, but I am extra the type who likes to consume than to cook dinner up a storm inside the kitchen even though. However, I am also a self-confessed curious eater, who hankers for eating with a view and dining in interesting (themed) locations. If you comply with me in my travels you'll see this very apparent pattern.
In Beograd (how they actually name Belgrade there), I had dinner at this out-of-this-global avant-garde eating place. I observed the eating place whilst trying to find places to consume at Tripadvisor. What I commonly look for in a restaurant is a mixture of the following factors:
- Good score because this means site visitors have loved the food and their enjoy (does not have to be number 1 or within the pinnacle 5).
- Have a lovely view (I absolutely hanker for this) or...
- Must have a extraordinary ambiance. Interior layout topics plenty.
- Interesting concept if it’s a themed restaurant. The authentic and wierder, the higher!
Since I am staying 3 days and a pair of nights in Belgrade, meaning I actually have 2 dinners inside the pipeline. The first dinner was at this opera theatre themed eating place inside the Old Town called Little Bay. For my second night time I picked Lorenzo & Kakalamba, a one-of-a-type particular eating place located within the Vracar neighbourhood. My senses are already stimulated with just the mention of the call of the eating place, haha.
So after my past due afternoon walk in Skardalija and beverages on the Republic Square, I headed returned to my lovely inn apartment in Terazije to clean up. Then I went right down to the reception and chatted the men approximately my alternatives on touring to the eating place. Walking could take me half of an hour, this is if I am pro sufficient to navigate the streets at night time. They didn’t like the idea of course. The same goes with taking my apartment car. So they suggested alternatively that I take a cab and that they'll call one for me. They counseled strongly now not to take the taxis waiting outside the lodge due to the fact they may rate me two times.
Advice on taking cabs in Belgrade: Call in advance or choose a strolling cab. Taking the cab is genuinely reasonably-priced right here!
When I arrived at the eating place I become welcomed by way of a rainbow of evident lighting fixtures and happy colours. Wow, the whole eating place is like a museum of some weird avant-garde kitschy artwork exhibition. It’s a jungle of extravagance, of outrageous colorful pieces and whatnot. Standing male and lady in tuxedo lamps. Mismatched chandeliers, tables and chairs. The town of Florence painted at the partitions. Preposterous very vivid and out-of-this-global art sculptures and installations. A giraffe at my lower back? Oh yes, a few purple flowery curtains please! Black and white striped pillars. Garlic, tomatoes, paprika and sheep placing the wrong way up from the ceiling. It is certainly a surreal of a place.
They seated me wherein I had a good view of the restaurant. I seem to have ready organisation as well which I did no longer thoughts in any respect. At my returned is a big giraffe (my bodyguard!) and properly, nicely, I am eating with a totally uncommon Mr. & Mrs. Pair.
My desk pals, the Mr. & Mrs. Pair and the giraffe at my lower back. Some organisation I got, huh =)
The eating place’s meals specialty is a fusion of Florentine and Pirot cuisine. We all know Florentine right? Referencing to the stunning metropolis of Florence in Italy. While Pirot is an area in south-japanese Serbia. This goes to be a very thrilling culinary mixture.
After very well scanning the food menu I discovered the local traditional section. I need to eat something native and not a few fusion experimentation. I then quickly spotted the sausages. Aha, Ćevapi (plural: Ćevapčići)! The countrywide food of Serbia. Mini skinless minced meat sausages at the grill. I even have eaten them earlier than as they are bought frozen in packs in supermarkets (LIDL has them). But I need the actual deal this time in Serbian soil.
In addition to this I asked for a pickled cabbage aspect dish known as sarma. If you're into kimchi and sauerkraut, you'll love this.
Did I say that their menu card is just manner too cool? And oh, I forgot to retrieve my digicam’s memory card in my pc so helaas, my digicam has no disk space, which is the motive why the rest of the snap shots of this entry isn't surely of top excellent. #iphonepictures
The menu card: Wearing a spaghetti dress and slowly being undressed by means of your glutton boyfriend, haha. I recognise, this eating place is in reality weird in a nice manner.
My closing nighttime meal in Belgrade: Cevapi/Cevapcici and Sarma.
The verdict: The food here turned into pretty ok. Perhaps what I had became now not the high-quality meals preference within the eating place to reserve in view that this joint is specialised in Florentine and Pirot delicacies, however it positive is a high-quality location to compromise my wishes. By combining my curiosity of this wacky place and having my ultimate evening meal in the metropolis with traditional food
And oh, with the aid of the manner, which could be very critical -- you can take a peek on the kitchen beneath via the massive glass tiles at the ground. Pretty cool. Scroll down this entry to see a image.
So I am giving this eating place a big YES. A outstanding a laugh, outlandish, kooky, quirky place and comes pretty recommended if you are looking for some thing exclusive in Beograd. Staff were very beneficial and pleasant as nicely.
Do take word that the restaurant isn't within the instant location of the Old Town so you would need to get a cab to come back here (about 7-10 mins force from the Old Town). They also can name you a taxi going lower back for your resort or anyplace you need to go.
