After having our fill at Vathi and slurping our chilled Greek frappes and milk chocolate shake dry, we had been ready for our little island road tripping. Meganisi is a completely small island and a large part of it isn't even available, rather endorsed to journey by means of vehicle. You need a boat to peer its long rugged rocky coastline and caves as an example.
The slim streets of Katomeri village.
But helaas, we were relatively pressed with time for this little road ride. We still have to lunch somewhere which at this factor we didn’t know in which, even though I even have an idea but would need to bribe my way thru the Dutchman and the Dutch mother using my charm, and then we might have to discover a seaside to settle down in for the relaxation of the day before taking the nineteen:30 ferry again to Nydri, Lefkada (also spelled Nidri).
What is crucial for us although at some stage in summer time holidays is to GO SLOW. No rushing. We take our time and savour every minute. So this become a chunk of a luxe dilemma for us. Stress *rolls eyes* haha.
Here is a glimpse into the specific itinerary of this little island street trip:
- We left Nydri at 12:15 – The in advance schedule is at 07:00 which is not an option for us; the Dutchman remains in REM sleep mode at this hour, haha. Check out our voyage right here and the schedules of the ferry: Ferry experience from Nydri, Lefkada to Meganisi Island
- We arrived Vathi port at 12:forty five – Explored Vathi harbour which is tiny so that became rather short and had drinks at a restaurant on the waterfront. Go here for the weblog entry: Vathi harbour
- Island road tripping at thirteen:forty five – This is what the blog submit is all about. Scroll down to see our road journey route for an concept and the images we took.
- Very late lunch again in Vathi at 15:00 – We decided to move lower back to Vathi for lunch on the harbour (destiny blog post)
- Beach time at sixteen:30 – We spent the rest of the day at Spilia seashore that is just beside the port (destiny weblog publish)
- Ferry returned to Nydri at 19:30 – Leaves at Spilia port which turned into reachable. Ahoy!
So I controlled to persuade the corporation, well particularly the Dutchman who turned into eyeing a exclusive seaside, to go lower back to Vathi for lunch and spend the rest of the day at Spilia seaside. Dutchman was a chunk enamoured with Fanari Beach placed inside the jap aspect of the island but I simply knew we were better off at Spilia due to the fact it's far right subsequent to the port in which we are able to be boarding the ferry again to Nydri. We may have less pressure as we will see the ferry coming. Surely we do not need to overlook the last boat trip. Besides, Spilia bay beach regarded quite .
Although the Dutchman changed into not satisfied with my selection, he gave in. Hallelujah! Well significantly, what else may want to he do? =)
As for the roadtrip, there is in reality not lots to look in my opinion, however we had been happy to have gone around. The northern part of the island is the livable element. There are 3 most important villages and these are: Katomeri, Vathi and Spartochori. Vathi is the principle (capital) village of Meganisi. For a small island it offerings 2 ports: Spilia and Vathi. There is an ATM here, a few shops and a handful cafes and eating places. It is a low profile island.
The streets in Katomeri have been very narrow as properly and as you power around you may see mirrors within the intersections to assist you if there may be another automobile coming. Some of those streets simplest allow 1 automobile passage. It is handier to move around with a motorcycle or scooter. Spartochori on the other hand is closed to non-resident vehicular visitors and all roads result in the port of Spilia.
There are multiple beaches around the island and they may be by and large small bay seashores. We had been capable of discover the northeastern component and noticed Abelike Bay, Atheni and Fanari Beach, the latter changed into Dutchman’s preferred. On the western facet we didn’t move as some distance as Spilia Beach, but at the map you may see that there are different small seashores.
This is our course. We started out at Vathi and finished as properly in Vathi where we had our late lunch. After lunch we went to Spilia beach/Agrios beach bar that's just beside Spilia port where we are taking the ferry back to Nydri, Lefkada.
The island also has some of caves and there is a lighthouse at its tail-stop, but that is nice explored and visible from a distance with a ship than with a automobile. In fact, we saw the popular Papanikolis Cave of Meganisi all through a ship cruise we booked on a unique day. I can not say if it become that superb however it became quite interesting.
We also observed many yachts and sailboats mooring around the island. This is possibly because of its topography, the island’s contour is shaped ruggedly with many islets, seaside bays, rocky cliffs and comfortable nooks for boats to moor in personal. Boating is not for the Dutchman and moi but I do now not mind to do that sort of holidaying at some point. At least for the enjoy.
Meganisi is a small island and ideal for the ones holidaymakers searching for relaxation, nature and peace. There is little to look and do right here but for sure that is simply what some people are searching out.
Scenes on the street from Katomeri to Abelaki Bay and Atheni.
This couple with the bike became with us on the boat. Dutchman and I would have rented a motorcycle as nicely and not a car, had the Dutch mother no longer joined us in this excursion.
A local fishing boat.
An orthodox Christian chapel along the street in vibrant red and orange colors.
Fanari Beach which become Dutchman's first desire but managed to convince him that we spend our seaside time at Spilia seaside as a substitute.
Navigating our way thru the narrow streets of Katomeri village.
This is the village of Spartochori on the western facet of the island. The village is a no input area for vehicular visitors for non citizens.
This is the quite Spilia Beach wherein we spent the relaxation of the day. Not bad huh? I will publish a separate weblog entry approximately our time here soon. The port of Spilia is just further ahead, about a 2-minute pressure.
This is Vathi, the principle village and harbour of the island.
